The Goldbergs is a tv comedy set in the 1980s where geeky 11-year-old Adam uses a video camera to document his family's crazy life. His mother, Beverly, is overprotective and lacks boundaries, while his dad has a hot temper and finds it difficult to parent without screaming.

Episode 21 of the first season was titled "The Age of Darkness" where the usually moody daughter Erica is enthralled with her first love...until he dumps her. Her parents try to help. Meanwhile, older brother Barry becomes obsessed with a new arcade game. Several scenes took place in the local Challenge Arcade.

The arcade/known games[]

This is a small arcade having mostly video games, although there are also a few electrical-mechanical pinball machines as well. Space Invader elements can be seen on the change machine and on the arcade's walls. A person named Dale is employed there and a local kid named Lyle is seen there (whom Barry states is "bad luck" at one point). The games run on quarters.

Trivia[]

  • The chain of events that start this episode began on April 29, 1987.
  • Polybius is believed to be an urban legend that never existed, only being tested out in a few arcades in the United States where men in black would collect data from the machine, which caused some players to have nightmares and gave up video games for the rest of their lives. This story became so well known that it made appearances in The Simpsons television series episode entitled "Please Homer, Don't Hammer 'Em" and in the Lone Star Arcade in the online The Shadow Realms Arcade video game.
  • Adam is eating Pac-Man cereal (from the coin-op video game series) in one of the episode’s final scenes.
  • In the earlier episode two of the same season ("Daddy Daughter Day"), several scenes took place at the Moonlight Rollerway roller skating rink, which had a small arcade. Adam was also seen eating the Pac-Man cereal at the beginning as well.
